In the latest UN Security Council meeting, the body adopted a resolution presented by both the UAE and Japan.

The two nations co-penned the resolution that advances the process outlined in the independent assessment on Afghanistan.

Main points of the assessment calls for an Afghanistan at peace with itself and its neighbours, fully reintegrated into the international community, with the safe, full, equal and meaningful participation of Afghan women.

The resolution will see a UN Special envoy to be selected and assigned to promote and oversee the assessments recommendations being implemented.
