Authorities in Dubai have shut down 13 shops for violating safety guidelines that have been introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the Dubai Economy (DED), 18 fines and 211 warning letters were issued to other violating establishments.

They were reported after Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) in DED carried out inspections across malls and high street markets in Satwa, Karama, Qusais, Jumeirah, Al Wasl, Khawaneej, Naif, International City and Abu Hail, among others.

Mobile phone stores, laundry services, fashion retailers and building material traders were among those that were pulled up.

Officials added that most shops did not have social distancing stickers and other precautionary measures in place. Some were even running promotions and allowing customers to trial outfits, despite authorities warning against doing so.

Residents are reminded that they can report violations through the Dubai Consumer App, their toll-free number (600545555), or on their website.
