A AED 2.5 billion project to drain rainwater in areas around Expo 2020 Dubai is on track for completion by September next year.
Around 65 per cent of the deep tunnel network is now ready.
It’s the largest of its kind in the Middle East and is designed to serve an area of 490 km.
Construction work is being carried out in various shifts for 24 hours every day, with nearly four million man-hours already invested in the project.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: "The project will have a major impact in developing the groundwater drainage infrastructure for Al Maktoum City, the Expo area and the Airport City, and will remain in service for a century."
