A new campaign targeting single-use plastic cutlery has been launched in the UAE.
Run by the marine conservation group Azraq, the initiative will see the utensils collected and given to schools for use in a special art competition that aims to raise awareness about the impact of plastic on the environment.
According to worldcentric.org, around 40 billion pieces of plastic cutlery are used in the US alone every year, and Azraq says that they always find single-use utensils during beach clean-ups in the Emirates.
Residents across the UAE will be able to drop off their leftover plastic cutlery at collection points provided by Carcluccio’s, Beitfann Studio and Lush, or hand them over to delivery drivers from Freedom Pizza.
