His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has wished Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah success and prosperity as he officially took over as Kuwait's new emir.
In a post on his official social media channels, Sheikh Mohammed wished for "a new path of progress and progress under his wise leadership".

Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates also sent congratulatory cables to Sheikh Meshal on the occasion of assuming power.
The messages were sent by Their Highnesses Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi of Ajman, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi of Fujairah, Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla of Umm Al Qaiwain, and Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi of Ras Al Khaimah.
Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers also sent similar cables to the Emir of Kuwait.
Sheikh Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah was formally sworn in on Wednesday.
The 83-year-old was Kuwait's day-to-day ruler during much of his half-brother Sheikh Nawaf's reign due to his ill-health. His predecessor died on Saturday.
