Beirut Port received on Friday an aid ship from the UAE carrying 2,000 tonnes of urgent relief supplies for the Lebanese people, as part of the "UAE Stands with Lebanon" campaign, which was launched early this October.
His Excellency Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development and Organizations Affairs and Member of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, said: “This new aid comes in the context of the UAE’s keenness to stand with the brotherly Lebanese people in these difficult circumstances."
"The ship carried 1,000 tons of food supplies and 1,000 tons of various shelter supplies, bringing the volume of aid sent so far to 2,610 tons," he added.
His Excellency added: "These tireless efforts to enhance the emergency humanitarian response reflect the great interest of the wise leadership in providing for the needs of the brotherly Lebanese people, which embodies the noble and fraternal humanitarian values that call for solidarity, cooperation, synergy and support with our Lebanese brothers."
The UAE has sent 14 aircraft carrying aid to Lebanon, some of which were in cooperation with the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, in addition to the "UAE is with you Lebanon" campaign, which collected 1,300 tons of relief supplies.
